One Room – I Want You

HeavyRoc Music is easily my favorite indie record label in New York, boasting The Knocks, Alex Winston, Samuel and St. Lucia. They’re a new breed of chic pop powered by buoyant stylings of The Knocks’ ever-maturing production abilities. Now they’ve added a new artist to the mix, the enigmatic One Room.

Seemingly modeled after The Weeknd, One Room has a dirtier hip hop side that hopefully we’ll see more of as the music comes out. For now all we have is this Lana Del Rey-style music video of the first release “I Want You.” Check it out and keep your eye on what HeavyRoc Music has cooking up next.

Always living for the night

Swedish pop duo (most used description on EPM) Icona Pop have been raising big expectations this year after Chiddy Bang vaulted them into the spotlight and the recently released Nights Like This EP showcased their potential. They’re masters of the catchy hook and can belt out a chorus like no other.

I love blogging about them, a lot, and I couldn’t help myself from doing it again – using a music video as an excuse. Icona Pop pays homage to Tarantino’s Death Proof on the video for “Nights Like This,” trading glow paint for plaid and yet still managing to look European as all hell.

The Knocks have given us a brand new single that will be featured on an upcoming EP from A&M/Octone Records and I couldn’t be more excited about it. They’ve been on an absolute tear, without a bad track to come out yet. Considering I’ve written an excessive amount about them on this blog I’ll spare you the long form post and let the music speak for itself. Happy Music Monday!

Moody as they wanna be

A much anticipated collaboration from Swedish duo Icona Pop and EPM favorites The Knocks has finally arrived. “Sun Goes Down” will be featured on Icona Pop’s upcoming album, Nights Like This. Given The Knocks’ expertise in panty-dropping upbeat dance tracks, and Icona Pop’s bratty pop sound – a joint like this comes as a little bit of a surprise. It’s suuuper moody and dark, with an epic chorus that reminds me of Austra’s “Lose It.” On just a personal level, it’s just exciting to hear what it sounds like when New York City and Sweden collide.

Recently signed to Mercury Records, Icona Pop captured attention with their sugary electronic pop jam “Manners” dropped late last year. The Knocks have had a hell of a year themselves, signing with A&M/Octone with the promise of a debut LP in the works. From the sounds of it, both of these artists are just getting started, and both have the potential to absolutely explode in 2012. Now dig on this sexy black fire of a song.

Going solo on the Tag Team

Ah, what a great way to start the week! Friend of Electric Panda Music, DJ Invisiboy, sent us an exclusive mashup upon request. We were looking for something from blog favorites and NYC producer kings The Knocks and Invisiboy didn’t disappoint. He came back with “Dancing with the DJ” mashed with Tag Team’s “Whoop! There it is,” adding some Jesse Marco for effect.

Do we really need to wax philosophical about this one? Fanboy alert: anything with The Knocks is a win in my book.

Rumor around town is that Invisiboy has some big things in the works so keep an eye out on this upcoming Portland DJ and mashup artist. As for today? WHOOP! THERE IT IS! (That never gets old…)
