Good girls rarely make history

The hard part about posting one song a day  is there is a host of great music out there and things get benched, sometimes indefinitely. This one can no longer wait and as usual in these situations, I’m ashamed it didn’t happen sooner. Regardless, Lizzy Grant AKA Lana Del Rey is someone you need to hear. Recently making Pitchfork’s Best New Tracks (I’m not the only one who waited too long!), Lana Del Rey is a sultry, smoking hot songstress with an image carefully crafted after the timeless Nancy Sinatra.

Lana Del Rey isn’t just a reincarnation of Nancy by image alone – she’s got the range and vocal chops to match. If the smoke rising from a smoldering fire could sing, it’s lusciously dangerous song would be channeled directly into a Lana Del Rey track. Capable of churning out succulent pop tunes like “Diet Mtn. Dew.” Grant can dig deep on a track like “Video Games” – reminiscent of Nancy classic “Bang Bang.” She’s almost universally lauded by music critics, even hip-hop oriented blogs like Mostly Junk Food have been singing her praises. She could end up doing for 60s go-go pop what Amy Winehouse did for British soul.
