“Come and play with us… for ever and ever and ever”

Sweden has a bit of a reputation for producing incredibly upbeat electro pop, seemingly from another planet where everything is amazing and wonderful. In fact, on several occasions I’ve referred to it as “magical unicorn rainbow land” or some variation of that. Still, every once in a blue moon they churn out something wistful and moving. Swedish/Australian (not sure how that works) sisters Saint Lou Lou are kicking off their duo’s work with “Maybe You,” a beautifully produced melancholy record filled with hope and lost love.

Unfortunately, this is all we’ve got from them for now. We’ll keep watching Saint Lou Lou’s Facebook page for more.

From vintage porn to dreamy electro pop, Pallers has you covered

The beautiful weekend just couldn’t last, and now the rain returns to Brooklyn. Funny how weather can affect your listening selections for the day, and it seemed appropriate to reflect that in today’s post as well. Though I join a gargantuan army of blogs who’ve already covered this song, I’d like to present “Come Rain, Come Sunshine” by Pallers. They’re from Sweden, so I think you pretty much know what to expect. Just as dreamy as anything in that magical land, but with more somber overtones and heavier bass. Melancholy blast straight to the dome, kid.

Snow & Voices: Feeding off your unhappiness since 2005

Snow & Voices cover of “Go Your Own Way” is arguably the best Fleetwood Mac cover ever done. Really bold statement to make, but this is a song that has haunted me for years – despite the fact it is obscure to the point where it’s near impossible to find an MP3. Snow & Voices are a Los Angeles-based dream pop group who specialize in music so unbelievably melancholy you will either fall asleep or start crying.

This track lends itself to the latter. Lindsay Buckingham wrote this song for Stevie Nicks, at the height of their tumultuous relationship – classic tale of heartbreak and loss that has been cherished for years. While I’ll never say this again about another cover song, the Snow & Voices rendition is probably more indicative of what Buckingham was feeling than what actually went into the studio.
