Schoolboy Q isn’t exactly known for struggle rap, but with a little help from his homie Kendrick Lamar he lets out a bit of his softer side on “Blessed.” The Los Angeles-based emcees drop a little hope and optimism on those facing tough situations on this slow-tempo ballad off Q’s latest Habits & Contradictions.
I’ve been a fan ever since I first heard “F*ck ya hip hop,” and yet again he makes a strong case that the art of hip hop still burns strong. With the attention Kendrick Lamar has been getting, I wonder if there is still room in the market for more thoughtful and clever lyricism. One thing is for sure, with drops like this we’re all blessed.
