Music Monday: Foster the People – “Pumped Up Kicks” and “Waste”

Just some good ole' boys, never meaning no harm

As a caveat, this post really should have been made eons ago (by blog standards at least). Debuting last summer, LA-based Foster the People started getting major buzz for their single “Pumped Up Kicks” after it found a welcoming community on the Hype Machine. Follow that up with their notable performances at SXSW this year and now they’ve got a sizeable fan base chomping at the bit for their first album Torches, due out May 23rd. A free stream of which is available on AOL.

Foster the People is essentially MGMT with a little more rock ethos that doesn’t stray too far into the experimental realm (read: inaccessible). “Pumped Up Kicks” was a staple on my iPod for weeks when it came out last year. Just too good, they have a real knack for writing pop music you can’t feel too bad about liking. Problem is, your little sister is probably going to be jamming to these guys soon, so get in on it while you can.
