Flashback Friday: Da Bush Babees – “Clear My Throat [Ya Mammy]“

More like... Da Shubbery Homies (Zing!)

Today’s Flashback Friday post is dedicated to the hip hop of the early to mid 90s. Now, I’m not going to go on a long analysis of the era, and why hip hop was in it’s prime. Pretty sure we can all just assume it was the Golden Era without further explanation. Gangsta rap made headway on the West Coast with NWA and Tupac, while New York took the crown as the hip hop capital of the world with Notorious BIG, Big L, Wu-Tang Clan and countless others.

Not to mention the bevy of underground hip hop that was so fresh and never made it anywhere (Down South, anyone?). Da Bush Babees are a trio of rappers that formed in Brooklyn and released a couple albums during the Golden Era. Today’s track “Clear My Throat [Ya Mammy]” is loosely based on DJ Kool’s “Let Me Clear My Throat” and like many tracks of the time, still holds up after all these years.
